I admit I always feel sad when people get Botox - despite knowing I could also be tempted (what a hypocrite!) People love claiming that you can’t tell if it’s done properly but I don’t buy it. I remember reading something like “it’s the next generation’s turn to be young” and telling myself that has made me feel much more forgiving of my ageing face. It’s a cliche, but ageing really is a privilege. (Still, never say never. Come back next year and see if I’m still piously rejecting the face poison. 😆)
Most of the time I don't really look at my face as I'm too busy being in my head but every now and then I see the signs: the extra crow's feet, the lipstick that now drifts outside of my lip line! But it's a good perspective to have re the next generation. On holiday, I always tell myself that no one is looking at me (especially around the pool). We often only notice particularly attractive people and mostly ignore (or are forgiving of) the rest so I figure it's okay to be invisible. Heh! If you try it, let me know. ;) I think that many people who have it aren't going for the 'natural' look but I think it can look 'more subtle' on a scale of 'subtle' to 'completely frozen.'
wait wait wait anti-ageing non-ablative laser work? I think we all need to know more. Also, get fillers, or don't, it's your choice but lines on your not-20-anymore face tell a story! I don't want to say I wish you a happy birthday and many more smile lines in the future, but I kinda do. you deserve to smile all the time :) (and moisturise sometimes)
The lasers do work as long as you use them. So they cause microscopic damage which stimulates your collagen to repair it so you’ll see noticeable improvement (I wrote for Tria Beauty but that works and the more expensive Lyma Laser works and probably others) but the results aren’t permanent unless you use the laser in cycles! (Which I do sometimes but am mostly too lazy.) On holiday I’ve been brilliant at moisturising and face rolling. 🤣 It’s always the debate of do I age naturally or just go with it. I’m afraid of needles and fillers but Botox in future? 🤷🏻♀️
Hey Elaine, this was such a beautiful and insightful post! I love how he would always give you gifts but also be mindful of spending quality time with you! As someone who’s had lots of Father’s Days without their dad around, I can tell you it will get better sooner than later. Everything takes an adjustment period. Thank you so much for posting this! Your newsletter is awesome by the way! Just subscribed! :)
You're very welcome Elaine! Thank you so much for your sweet comment! It'll be hard at first, but I know we can honor their memory while moving forward. :)
Although I only knew your dad for a short period of time, I always remember him as being kind and generous of spirit. We got on, despite our differing world views and I like to think that for those brief few years we were frineds. I would have liked to kept in touch with him but moving to London all those years ago meant we lost contact. Your photos are lovely!
