bold of you to tease me like that! (also, is it an american thing to name the city and the state? I met a girl from Atlanta - Georgia and I mindlessly repeated it out loud quoting a drag queen from the same place, and the girl didn't beat an eye, like it was a normal thing to say in a normal accent)
🤣 So, I think it’s only done if there can be confusion. For example, there’s a Manchester, UK (close to where I live now) but there’s also a Manchester, New Hampshire. Maybe Atlanta is well known but there’s a Columbus, Ohio and people might not know any cities in Alabama! I went to high school in Nashville, Georgia but there’s also a Nashville, Tennessee (the more famous one, heh) and my Grammy even went to school in Nashville, Illinois. Cities like LA, Atlanta, New York, Chicago, Orlando, etc people might know but there are so many people who might not, so I think people don’t bat an eyelid when you name city and state but I never thought about it. 🤣😅 Idk if you told me a bunch of non famous Italian or Australian cities I might not know them. 🤔
Yep. That makes sense. They could have continued the 'NEW ___' trend but nope, they just recycled names. Once I heard some news from Durham and I thought things were happening exactly where I was studying in the UK, but it was Durham -North Carolina! They didn't add the "NC" so I guess, it proves your point.
Haha I forget about the sheer number of names just “borrowed” from England! 🤣 I guess growing up in the South I didn’t even connect Durham and Durham. 🤔 Even Hampshire! I think adding “new” to everything would have been so funny and maybe “New England” looks closer to England than anywhere in the US but the South certainly looks nothing like it!
What brilliant writing. Can't recall the last time I read anything from beginning to end that Substack promised would be a longer than 15 minute read. Now I did. Great stuff.
As for the Professor, you know the kiss-and-dump move would've traumatized him regarding his kissing skills. He'll have been searching his mind for what went wrong and will have come up with the trigger having been the kiss. All was going swimmingly, you kissed him ("yay, she likes me"), next day, friend zone. His only conclusion will have been the kiss. Poor guy. That's a tough break.
Relationships are cruel. Doesn't matter if we're good people or bad, I don't think we can go through life without sometimes scarring others...however hard we try not to, it's just part of the human experience.

***Not sure if I made it clear but we adored Ms Patti from our class but we also knew we’d never be in that camp of perfect womanhood. 🫶🏻

Omg what a lovely comment! 🫶🏻 Thank you so much. Haha! He was a lovely guy and a good kisser! Poor guy. It was nothing to do with him. 🤔

Very well put! I think even if you don’t mean to be cruel or hurtful we can sometimes hurt others.
As someone who is about to re-enter the dating world, I am sure I will relate to much of what you wrote. Thank you for sharing!
