I’m Elaine! Those closest to me call me Lainey. British-American. Professional editor. Aspiring writer. Book lover. Afternoon tea aficionado.

It’s the journey of “why we met” (or how I met the quirky, fun, gem that is my Yorkshire husband), chronicling the highlights (and lowlights) of an “elder” Millennial, attending uni and grad school, growing up in an era of body image conflicts, feminism shifts, and reconciling my experience in the deep South of Georgia and Florida versus my childhood in the north of England. It’ll be the story of friendships, of journeys, of growth, of how we form our impressions of each other and the world. I hope you’ll join me.

I hope it’ll be a bit Bridget Jonesy meets Sex and the City (set in rural America) meets rom-com meets your best friend chronicling her dating ups and downs – spilling all the tea along the way – and the lessons I’ve learned.

I’ll post once per week on my journey from serial dating disaster to divorcée to happily married human.

I write my Substack as a hobby, so if you can afford to support me, please subscribe as it’s only the cost of a cup of (Venti Starbucks) coffee or a pastry per month – but your generous support will make a huge difference to me.

For only £4/month (£1/week) or £30/year (£0.57/week), you can get access to paid subscriber-only posts, which will include special posts and behind-the-scenes content.

If you can’t pay to subscribe, please share your favourite posts so I may reach more people. Thank you!

This Substack is "Why We Met" – all the journeys and ups and downs I took in life to get to him, my safe haven, my perfect-for-me partner, my person, my love. I know I'm lucky. Thanks for reading and supporting my writing journey.
