BONUS MATERIAL: THE SHORT MESSAGE EXCHANGE WITH HUDSON, THE CHINESE AMERICAN DOCTOR
From the horse's mouth (or the doctor’s)
The message exchange with Hudson, the handsome Chinese American Doctor.
September 2012
Hudson: From northern England to southern Georgia, has the area provided the culture clash you're looking for?
Elaine: I think so!
Hudson: How long have you been in the area?
Elaine: Um, I think about a year. You?
Hudson: Just since June of this year. Explored Columbus much yet?
Elaine: I have done quite a bit of exploring. There's more to do here than one would think, but less than one would like. Have you seen much of the area?
My messages seemed short and snippy at first?
Hudson: I'll agree with that statement. I haven't as much as I'd like. Work keeps me pretty busy, long and odd hours makes it difficult. Aside from the Loft and Canon Pub, I haven't checked out many places downtown. And here by the Columbus Park Crossing area where I live there's not a whole lot going on except for chain restaurants. The goal is to bike the River Walk down to Ft. Benning and back one of these weekends and also to check out Providence Canyon sometime for a day hike. Done or been to either?
Elaine: I have walked the River Walk and been to Providence Canyon. Also, I've seen the Loft, Canon Pub, etc, and I used to live at the [apartment complex name] with someone so I know all about the chain restaurants!
Hudson: What did you think of Providence Canyon? I'm over at the [apartment complex name] right now. Love the convenience over here, though I wish there were more mom and pop kind of restaurants here over the chain restaurants. How's your weekend going?
Elaine: I liked Providence Canyon, but I imagine it's nicer when it is cooler. Yes, it's quite convenient. I'm here now hanging out with my friend Anna and grading student essays. We went to Atlanta today so she could buy food at the Chinese market. We also went to a contemporary art museum and some BBQ restaurant she loves. Yes, Columbus is lacking in nice non-chain restaurants. How's your weekend?
